It’s May, and the summer blues are already beginning to set in for football fans. The long wait to July for SEC Media Days and then August for training camp feels like an eternity, but we did get some early spreads to chew on this week from FanDuel.
A couple of Tennessee’s matchups were listed in their initial release of college football gambling lines, and (to no surprise) they weren’t kind to the Vols.
Tennessee was installed as a 15.5 point underdog at Florida, and a 21 point underdog at home against Georgia.
It’s been well documented at this point just how much Josh Heupel has to replace at Tennessee, which could create another lean year in Knoxville. The hope for the most optimistic Tennessee fan at this point is that his high octane offense can mask enough of those deficiencies to keep the Volunteers around six wins.
Georgia, on the other hand, is locked and loaded for a run at a national title. JT Daniels returns under center for the Bulldogs, along with 13 more returning starters. Florida will have a tougher road ahead, tasked with replacing Kyle Pitts, Kadarius Toney and Kyle Trask. Emory Jones will become Dan Mullen’s next quarterback, while Jacob Copeland will become the likely No. 1 target in the passing attack.
It’s tough to truly give an accurate line without seeing Tennessee take the field in September, but one thing is likely going to stay true all season — take the over.
