Tennessee lands in top five for four-star linebacker Jaylen Sneed

Spring practice is over and the NFL Draft is behind us — all that’s left to do now is recruit. Expect to see plenty of recruiting coverage over the next couple of months as Josh Heupel tries to establish himself at Tennessee.

One of Tennessee’s biggest need in the 2022 cycle is at linebacker after several departures, and the Volunteers got a bit of good news over the weekend in that department. Four-star linebacker Jaylen Sneed named Tennessee to his top five choices, alongside of Notre Dame, Oklahoma, Oregon and Texas A&M.

Sneed made his top five known with the following video.

The 6-2, 210 pound prospect is the 73rd overall ranked prospect in the 247Sports composite rankings. Sneed is the 6th ranked outside linebacker prospect in the country. With Tennessee now searching for answers at the position, this would obviously be a big pull. It would also give new linebackers coach Brian Jean-Mary one of ‘his guys’ at the spot.

Sneed is out of Hilton Head, South Carolina. To this point, he’s racked up 35 scholarship offers. Now with in-person visits on the verge of returning, Sneed will have a chance to further narrow his choices beginning in June.

Tennessee offered Sneed a little over a year ago, which was one of his first big-time offers. Now with a new staff in place, it’s on Josh Heupel, Tim Banks and Brian Jean-Mary to establish a relationship in a hurry. To this point, it seems like they’ve at least done a decent job of that.

The Volunteers currently have just three commitments in their 2022 class. Now with recruiting at the forefront, expect that number to grow soon.
