Another former Volunteer has announced where he plans to play in 2021. Kivon Bennett, one of Tennessee’s starting outside linebackers during the 2020 season, will now join Butch Jones at Arkansas State.

Bennett was removed from the Tennessee team following an arrest early in the 2020 season. He was arrested on a drug charge, along with an unlawful possession of a firearm charge. Bennett has been in the transfer portal ever since.

The 6-2, 245 pound edge rusher emerged as one of Tennessee’s top pass rushers late in his time in Knoxville. It was a position of need for the Vols, and Bennett was providing solid play at the spot. During the 2020 season, Bennett totaled 22 tackles, 7.5 tackles for loss and 4.5 sacks.

The starter on the other side of the front seven, Deandre Johnson, also transferred from Tennessee this offseason, landing with Miami.

Defensive coordinator Tim Banks has been looking for answers at pass rusher since arriving in Knoxville. The depth chart isn’t totally empty, but it’s filled with guys who quite honestly haven’t proven anything just yet. Tyler Baron leads the way, along with Roman Harrison and JUCO transfer Byron Young. USC transfer Caleb Tremblay will bring a little experience and depth to the table.
