Tennessee is looking for reinforcements up front on the defensive line, and they’re firmly in the race for one of the biggest prospects in the 2022 class. Zxavian Harris released a top six on Friday, which included Tennessee alongside of Alabama, Georgia, Ole Miss, Mississippi State and LSU.
Harris stands in at a whopping 6-8, 335 pounds. He ranks as the 105th overall player in the class, currently sitting as a four-star prospect. Harris is the second-ranked player in the state of Mississippi and the tenth ranked defensive tackle in the country.
Tennessee offered Harris in the spring of 2020, and Josh Heupel and company have picked up where Jeremy Pruitt left off.
Harris is a teammate of top running back prospect Branson Robinson, who also has Tennessee in his top choices.
The powerful defensive tackle prospect would solve some issues for the Volunteers, who will likely flip their entire defensive tackle depth chart over next year. Heupel has already mentioned the need for immediate help at the position, but Tennessee is also set to see several veterans exit the program after this upcoming season. Defensive tackle is one of the top needs on the board, just from a pure numbers standpoint.
Harris has racked up 12.5 sacks and 23 tackles for loss over the last two seasons for Germantown High School. Tennessee will obviously have to beat out the two in-state schools here, along with the usual suspects — LSU, Alabama and Georgia. As visits resume at the end of this month, Harris and Robinson are situations to monitor.
