Recruiting is back to normal, which means surprise summer visit commitments are back as well. Tennessee picked up one of those early on Sunday morning, gaining a pledge from three-star running back Dylan Sampson.
Sampson took his official visit to Tennessee over the weekend with every intention of taking more in the coming weeks, but he saw all he needed to see on Saturday. Even with officials lined up to Vanderbilt and Louisville over the next two weeks, Sampson decided to go ahead and commit today.

Sampson is a three-star prospect out of Geismar, Louisiana. He currently ranks 602nd in the 247Sports composite rankings, standing as the 30th ranked player in the state of Louisiana.
The 5-10, 180 pound prospect held offers from South Carolina, Mississippi State, Arkansas, Purdue, Vanderbilt, Louisville, N.C. State, among several others. Sampson brings big-time speed to the table, offering a little bit of a different dynamic than most backs already on the depth chart. In Josh Heupel’s offense, a player like Sampson who can get out in space could certainly be dangerous.
Tennessee will be leaning heavily on Jabari Small and Tiyon Evans this year, perhaps using Jaylen Wright in a chance of pace role. Sampson fits into that mold, and will join the mix for the 2022 season.
