Today’s the day. Tennessee officially begins its pursuit of a national title this afternoon in Omaha, opening up their College World Series journey with a matchup against the Virginia Cavaliers.
The Vols last appeared in the College World Series all the way back in 2005.
The final eight teams will battle it out this week in two four-team brackets, double-elimination style. The Volunteers will face Virginia today, then either Texas or Mississippi State after that.
Virginia ended their season 35-25, with an 18-18 mark in ACC play. They took two out of three against Dallas Baptist to advance to Omaha, and now face a white hot Tennessee group to open.

Tennessee’s ace Chad Dallas will get the start on the mound today. He’ll face Virginia’s Andrew Abbott, who has an 8-6 record on the year with a 3.04 era.
