Another departure from Tennessee football has found a new home. Kaidon Salter, a four-star, top 100 quarterback out of Texas, will move on to Liberty and play for Hugh Freeze.

Had some off-field trouble at Tennessee but adds another talented QB to Hugh Freeze’s roster at Liberty. Was one of the top-ranked QBs in the 2021 recruiting class.
Salter was kicked off the team by Josh Heupel after two off the field incidents. The freshman quarterback arrived in Knoxville back in January and didn’t make it past June. He was suspended for all of spring practice following an on-campus incident that resulted in four arrests. Salter was the reinstated on June 1st, only to be charged with simple possession of marijuana just several days later.
He was one of the prizes of Tennessee’s 2021 recruiting class, a group that has now been torn apart by the transfer portal after the firing of Jeremy Pruitt. Salter was the 47th overall player in the 2021 class, per 247Sports. He was expected to at least dip his toe into the quarterback battle, starting on equal footing in a new offensive system with Harrison Bailey, Brian Maurer and Hendon Hooker.
Tennessee took Michigan transfer Joe Milton after the spring, who is now expected to play a big role in this quarterback battle during the fall. The Volunteers also landed a commitment from four-star quarterback Tayven Jackson, who currently is the crown jewel of Tennessee’s 2022 class.
