Walter Nolen, the 5-star defensive lineman who recently transferred to Powell, is big. I mean, real big. And boy, can he hit.

Nolen recently transferred from West Tennessee to Powell high school in Knoxville, and on Thursday night, the Panthers hosted perennial powerhouse Maryville.

The Panthers ended up taking the L, 52-31, after racing out to a 17-0 early lead.

Here’s another angle of the hit just because I happened to find it as I was writing this:

Nolen sheds a blocker at the line of scrimmage and hits the Maryville running back with outstanding authority. The announcers at the game likened the hit to the famous Jadeveon Clowney tackle/ forced fumble/ fumble recovery from the 2013 Outback Bowl against Michigan. I can see the resemblance.

Nolen stuffed the stat sheet in Powell’s first game against Anderson County — eight tackles, two TFL, one sack, one forced fumble — and while I didn’t see the game against Maryville, apparently the Rebels did a good job containing/ avoiding Nolen and minimalizing his impact.

The big defensive lineman also left the game a few times, though it seems that was more due to conditioning than for injury concerns.
