We didn't have too many marquee matchups this week and plenty of teams were idle, but as usual there were a few upsets. Oklahoma had been looking a little wobbly and finally took a tumble. Washington seems like they are due for a loss (or two) as well. The Big 12 and Pac-12 are showing surprising depth. The ACC is looking shaky. The Big Ten is a two team conference with little brother Penn State along for the ride. In the SEC, Georgia is starting to wake up - which is a bad sign for the rest of the country. Without further ado, here are the updated REAL rankings. Let me know if you agree or disagree!
1) Ohio State (8-0) The Buckeyes handled Wisconsin comfortably. It's difficult to see them being challenged until Michigan - which will likely serve as a de facto playoff elimination game. (Last week: 1)
2) Florida State (8-0) Easy win over Wake Forest. It looks like smooth sailing to an undefeated regular season, with only a couple of minor speedbumps in the form of in-state rivals Miami and Florida. (Last week: 3)
3) Michigan (8-0) Idle this week. Still haven't played anyone with a pulse, but at least they have been dominant. (Last week: 4)
4) Washington (8-0) They only beat Stanford by 9, which is actually their largest margin in their last four games. Their next three games are against ranked opponents. They've been playing with fire lately and I wouldn't be shocked to see them drop a couple. (Last week: 5)
5) Georgia (8-0) Even without Brock Bowers, Georgia put a hurting on Florida. It looks like they're finally playing to their potential. Missouri could be an interesting challenge this week. (Last week: 8)
6) Oklahoma (7-1) The Sooners cut it close against UCF last week and weren't so lucky this week at Kansas. Things don't get any easier this weekend, as they have to travel to Oklahoma State for the Bedlam game. (Last week: 2)
7) Texas (7-1) Currently sandwiched between a team they lost to (Oklahoma) and a team they beat (Alabama). (Last week: 6)
8) Alabama (8-1) Idle this week and huge matchup against LSU coming up this weekend. (Last week: 7)
9) Oregon (7-1) They got a huge win over a solid Utah team. But I still don't think it's enough to move them ahead of any of the teams currently above them. (Last week: 9)
10) Ole Miss (7-1) Their only blemish so far is Alabama, and they hold a nice win over LSU (Last week: 10)
11) LSU (6-2) Idle this week. Big game against Alabama coming up this weekend. (Last week: 13)
12) Louisville (7-1) Bounced back from their disappointing loss to Pitt with a huge win over Duke. (Last week: 17)
13) Notre Dame (7-2) Utterly destroyed Pitt. They're away at Clemson this weekend and then finish up with two winnable games after that. (Last week: 15)
14) Missouri (7-1) Picked up a convincing win over South Carolina. Things get harder now with Georgia, Tennessee, and Florida coming up. (Last week: 16)
15) Penn State (7-1) Indiana hung around for awhile but Penn State got the win. (Last week: 14)
16) Oregon State (6-2) Tough loss at Arizona. The next couple of games aren't too tough and then they end with Washington and Oregon back to back. (Last week: 11)
17) Tennessee (6-2) Tough battle at Kentucky but the Vols came out on top. UConn will be a bye of sorts this weekend, and then they have Missouri and Georgia in back to back weeks. (Last week: 19)
18) Utah (6-2) Oregon took Utah to the woodshed, but I still have to keep the Utes ahead of USC. (Last week: 12)
19) Oklahoma State (6-2) After a shaky start, the Cowboys have won four in a row. Bedlam is coming up this weekend. (Last week: 24)
20) USC (7-2) Cal just took them down to the wire. USC hasn't won a game by more than one score since Sep 23. (Last week: 23)
21) Kansas (6-2) They shocked Oklahoma, but Kansas has quietly had a decent team all year. (Last week: unranked)
22) North Carolina (6-2) After starting 6-0, North Carolina has had back-to-back losses against unranked teams. Can they stop the bleeding? (Last week: 20)
23) Miami (6-2) They beat Virginia in overtime after beating Clemson in 2OT the week before. Now they have two tough road games back to back (NC State, Florida State) (Last week: 22)
24) Arizona (5-3) They just picked up a nice win over Oregon State. Their record isn't great, but the losses have been razor-thin: two overtime losses on the road plus a 7 point loss at home to Washington. (Last week: unranked)
25) Air Force (8-0) Holding steady (Last week: 25)
