Tennessee Transfer Portal Tracker: Everything you need to know

The entries, the offers, the targets — all of it.

Syndication: The Knoxville News-Sentinel Saul Young/News Sentinel / USA TODAY NETWORK

As of Monday, December 4th, the transfer portal is officially open for business. The next few weeks are going to get wild as players are now free to explore their options. With the introduction of NIL money, the portal has exploded in popularity, completely reshaping the college football landscape each offseason.

Things are going to happen quickly, so let’s try to keep track of all the moves below. We’ll have all of Tennessee’s departure and offers, along with some notes about the most prominent names hitting the portal from around the country.

Friday, Dec 22

  • Tennessee senior safety Wesley Walker has entered the transfer portal. The Vols’ secondary overhaul continues.

Thursday, Dec 21

  • Tennessee has landed former Tulane wide receiver Chris Brazzell, who is just coming off of a 700+ yard season as a redshirt freshman. The 6-5 Brazzell will have three seasons of eligibility remaining.

Wednesday, Dec 20

  • Tennessee has landed big-time cornerback transfer Jermod McCoy, who will come in from Oregon State. McCoy is coming off of his freshman season with three years of eligibility left.

Tuesday, Dec 19

  • Former Tennessee OL Addison Nichols has committed to Arkansas.

Monday, Dec 18

  • Former Ohio State QB Kyle McCord transfers to Syracuse. McCord is the ninth ranked quarterback in the portal.

Saturday, Dec 16

  • Tyler Baron and Tamarion McDonald have both committed to Ole Miss. They join top 5 portal player Princely Umanmielen in Oxford. Ole Miss is currently the betting favorite to land the lone 5-star portal player, Walter Nolen.

Friday, Dec 15

  • Tennessee lands Notre Dame tight end transfer Holden Staes. Staes was ranked the top portal tight end per 247.
  • Doneiko Slaughter commits to Arkansas.

Thursday, Dec 14

  • Tennessee has offered Central Michigan defensive back Trey Jones.
  • Tennessee has offered Villanova defensive back Devon Marshall.
  • Oregon State defensive back Jermod McCoy and Florida offensive lineman Jalen Farmer visited Tennessee on Wednesday, per VolQuest.
  • Oklahoma OT Cayden Green enters the Transfer Portal. He is the top tackle in the portal.
  • Tennessee has landed a 100% Crystal Ball from On3 from wide receiver Chris Brazzell.

Wednesday, Dec 13

  • Duke EDGE RJ Oben commits to Notre Dame out of the portal. Oben is a top 30 player in the portal and the 5th ranked EDGE defender.

Tuesday, Dec 12

  • Tulane WR Chris Brazzell has reportedly visited the Tennessee campus. The 6-5 receiver was a freshman All-American honorable mention this season after a 700+ yard season. Brazzell is the 38th ranked player on the Big Board and the ninth overall WR.
  • Duke QB Riley Leonard commits to transferring to Notre Dame for his final season of college football. Leonard is the 12th ranked player on the Big Board and fifth overall QB.

Monday, Dec 11

  • And now Tennessee starter Tamarion McDonald is planning on entering the transfer portal. McDonald is a two-year starter for the Volunteers and has one season of eligibility remaining.
  • Tennessee reserve defensive back De’Shawn Rucker has entered the transfer portal.
  • Tennessee is reportedly set to visit with Kentucky tight end Jordan Dingle on Monday. The Volunteers hosted Notre Dame tight end Holden Staes over the weekend.

Sunday, Dec 10

  • Former Tennessee cornerback Warren Burrell has committed to Georgia Tech.

Saturday, Dec 9

  • Oregon lands Oklahoma transfer QB Dillon Gabriel. Gabriel is ranked 15th overall on the Transfer Big Board and the number six quarterback.

Friday, Dec 8

  • Tennessee DL Tyler Baron has entered the transfer portal. Baron was rumored to be going pro, but now he’ll look elsewhere for a new team for his final season of eligibility.
  • Texas A&M DT Walter Nolen, the top player in the Transfer Portal, picked up a crystal ball from On3 for Oregon as a heavy favorite to land him with Tennessee following behind at a distance.
  • Despite being heavily linked to QB Cam Ward, Ohio State is reportedly targeting former Duke QB Riley Leonard as a “top priority”, per Notre Dame 247 insider, Tom Loy. Leonard had largely been seen as a lock to Notre Dame the moment he entered the portal, but once McCord announced he was leaving Columbus, all bets had now become off with Ohio State being largely seen as the top QB portal destination this offseason.
  • UCLA QB Dante Moore, the top quarterback in the portal and second overall player, has picked up a crystal ball from On3 for Michigan State and Miami (FL) in nearly a dead heat. The Sparty crystal ball is interesting largely due to their involvement with Oregon State transfer QB Aidan Chiles, who played for newly hired head coach Jonathan Smith in Corvallis.
  • Top portal safety, Andrew Makuba, and second ranked EDGE, Trey Moore, have picked up a 100% crystal ball from On3 to Texas.

Thursday, Dec 7

  • TE Justin Joly will not visit Tennessee this weekend, as previously planned. The Volunteers will host Notre Dame TE Holden Staes instead.

Wednesday, Dec 6

Monday, Dec 4

  • IOL Addison Nichols enters the transfer portal. The former four-star prospect got his first ever start against Vanderbilt to close the year, but that wasn’t enough to keep him out of the portal. Nichols was one of Heupel’s first big pulls on the recruiting trail.
  • Tennessee OFFERS UConn TE Justin Joly. This has been a fan-favorite potential target since Joly put up eight catches for 89 yards against the Volunteers last month. Tennessee has a huge need at tight end with both Jacob Warren and McCallan Castles leaving.

More on Joly here.

  • Oklahoma QB Dillon Gabriel will enter the transfer portal.
  • Freshman safety Jack Luttrell has entered the transfer portal. Luttrell signed with Tennessee last year as a three-star prospect out of Georgia.
  • Veteran cornerback Brandon Turnage will not return to Tennessee for his COVID season. Turnage transferred in a few years ago from Alabama, but never was able to find solid playing time.
  • Texas A&M DT Walter Nolen entered the transfer portal on Sunday night. The Knoxville product and former five-star prospect has been as advertised at the college level, and should have quite the demand in the portal. Expect every top program to try to get in the mix here. Could Tennessee convince him to come home?
  • Ohio State QB Kyle McCord has entered the portal. McCord struggled for the Buckeyes this year, and now will get a chance for a fresh start.
