Veteran cornerback Doneiko Slaughter will be the latest name to test the transfer portal, according to a report from 247Sports. To this point, his name has not officially been entered.

Slaughter has one season of eligibility remaining thanks to the NCAA’s COVID-year rule. The veteran defensive back battled through injuries all season long, missing two games and playing limited for much of the year. He finished the year with 32 tackles, one for a loss and one sack. Slaughter’s time in Knoxville ends with one interception and seven passes defensed.

Slaughter spent time at safety and nickel before eventually settling into a cornerback role full time. The 6-0, 190 pound defensive back made 14 career starts for Tennessee, appearing in over 40 games for the Volunteers. The former three-star prospect is originally out of Roswell, Georgia.

Obviously, Tennessee’s (and virtually everyone else’s) roster is in flux right now. Slaughter joins Warren Burrell and Brandon Turnage in the transfer portal, meaning we could see an complete overhaul at cornerback from 2024. Gabe-Jeudy Lally could still return, while younger players like Rickey Gibson and Jordan Matthews could be the next man up.
