The 2020 college football season became a bit more official on Thursday with the release of the season’s first Coaches Poll.

The Clemson Tigers are the No.1 team in the country. It’s the second straight season in which they’ve started at the top of the mountain in the Coaches Poll. Ohio State, Alabama, Georgia, and LSU round out the top-5 in that respective order.

Tennessee just barely missed the top-25. The Vols tied Boise State at No. 26 with 111 votes, which was 24 votes away from the 25th-place Iowa State Cyclones

The poll also reflects yet another tough schedule for the Vols in 2020. Three of Tennessee’s known eight opponents are in the top-10. Alabama (3), Georgia (4), and Florida (9) are those three teams and there would be a fourth in Oklahoma (6) if the original schedule was still on course to be played.

There’s still a chance the Vols will have to play Auburn (11) and Texas A&M (13), as well, so it’s definitely possible that five of the Vols’ 10 opponents will start the 2020 season ranked in the top-15.

2020 is thought to be a major measuring stick for Tennessee and from the looks of things, that’s right on point.
